This is just a suggestion, but- you should have Eyes Cast Down do a review of one or more of Lucette Bourdin's albums- I think more people should know about her music- it's not often that something you see or hear hits you with an obvious instant 'magic', but Lucette was one of those people who could accomplish that.
After posting that comment to you, it occurred to me that Steve Roach might actually be a pretty busy person, but- thanks for clearing that up, anyway.
first of all- I wanted to express my sympathy for the passing of Lucette Bourdin (even though I'm not familiar with her work) Cancer is never a great thing, my father died of it, so I have an idea of the suffering involved.
also- I am curious- I have nothing but the greatest respect for Steve Roach and have benefitted from his work personally, but why would he choose to go through a third party when responding to all the wonderful feedback on your birthday wish post? Having taken the time to read all of them, I'm sure it would not have taken any more time for him to write a response of his own than to message you to write it for him? Again, just curious..
That's great John, I'd certainly be interested in any feedback if there's the time, but howsoever it suits you... Anyway, I hope you enjoy it - that's the main thing! /Giles
Thanks John. I am glad you sent me an invite, I didn't even realize you had such a big thing going here. This is really impressive. Hope to be contributing soon.
Thank you for the warm welcome, John. I'm already running into a lot of old friends here. It's amazing. Looking forward to making new friends and learning from others.
I use BY licenses lots of times, but i also use BY NC licenses from time to time, particularly when I am using an NC sample. The BY license gets my work used in lots of video projects, because film-makers know it is no hassle to use the work, with attribution. But I'm not doctrinaire about it. I've read a soul or two who actually got more paid downloads than free downloads--and I may use tunecore or a simlar service to release a conventional "pay to download" release someday. I wouldn't do this to make money so much as to get my work offered to more folks in more ways. To me, it's all about sharing the music, but part and parcel of that is to get the music out there, one way or another.
thanks for the invite john...I'll check in and participate when I can. Current commercial projects in house are a bunch of sample libraries, some tv/film/video music, and the initial stages of a new series of foley/fx works for film.
On the "for the love of it" side...finalizing a new collaborative release, that's been on the burner for a long time, and the framework for a new generative environment work is beginning to take shape. The new environment work should be out this spring.
