Seren posted this over on Hypnos so doing a repost here. I've known about Gigi's health troubles the last few years, and certainly wish him the best:

Seren's post:

"Gigi has asked me to let everyone know that he is very proud of and happy with the release of the album - and he would love to respond to the excitement and positive comments here and elsewhere.

Unfortunately his health is not good at the moment and he is undergoing a course of chemo which he is finding very debilitating - but he said he will do his best to be here as soon as possible."

I have to say that putting the cookbook on the front page front and center gave me great joy and a nice chuckle.   :-)

Moving on from the discussion of food.....

John asked what it was like working with Gigi?

I would have loved to have travelled to Italy and created some sounds with him directly – do some dreaming together and see what appeared, but we had to settle for the slower version of shuttling sounds back and forth via the postal service.

Once I had plucked up the courage to suggest a possible collaboration I sent Gigi a long form version of the main sound in the last track – Unremembered. It was some time before he replied and said he was struggling a bit with this as it sounded complete in itself.

We discussed things a bit further and it was Gigi who suggested The Martian Chronicles as inspiration/guide (I’ve just realised I never asked him why). I bought the book and really enjoyed re-reading it after many years (about 1976) and found many vivid memories of the stories unfolding like a forgotten plant suddenly flowering. This was especially true of the more Martian focussed sections.

I found Gigi very generous and easy to work with - he sent me a variety of sounds/track parts and allowed me to play with them as I wanted, and we sent things back and forth for suggestions/ additions/ fine tuning etc.

Gigi let me do things with his original sounds without any complaint – The very short track ‘End of a Changeling’ uses extracts from every piece of his music on the album, severely cut and mixed, to recreate the chapter in the book. So it ‘remembers’ earlier tracks and ‘hints’ at later ones, playing with the overlapping time lines of the book as well.

Hopefully the music will stand on it’s own, but I’d recommend buying the book to read as well. For me the stories are still relevant in many ways (though that may just be because I read it at a formative point in my life). Even the chapter on slavery, which is no longer in every version of the book, is a vivid reminder of where we were in 1959 and of how stupid we can be.
