A few days ago while doing some space clearing I found a few old drawings in storage that dated from the early to mid-90's. These three were part of a series of dream images that I later continued in the digital realm a few years ago, some may have seen the cover of my release, “Awakensong” (I may be offering prints of these for sale here, as well).
A little about the art... The root or tuber imagery is one that continued for more than a decade for me. I can't say for sure why the image of a anthropomorphized root came into my visual language, but for about 30 years, I have been very immersed in the writings of Carl Jung on dream imagery, the unconscious and Collective Unconscious. Looking at it from that point of view, roots can symbolize growth, potential growth, underground wealth, sustenance or existence...even the word “roots” implies the past or ancestry. The image of a veil appeared spontaneously in a lot of my artwork as well, which can be a representation of illusion, duality or even consecration and royalty.
The larger drawing, “Mountain King,” is 22" x 30" (charcoal), and the two smaller ones, “Root King” and “Idol and Veil,” are 11" x 15" (both graphite). All drawings are signed and on quality, acid-free Arches water color paper.
