I download a lot of music off of netlabels. Especially ambient and minimal techno, although my tastes do go fairly wide. One thing I've noticed is some labels have a link to download the whole album and some labels make me download track by track by track. I prefer whole albums, but I'm sure some people prefer individual tracks.
This got me thinking about netlabels and why they setup their albums the way they do... which led me to wondering why they started a netlabel in the first place, and what artists and releases they choose to release.
I'd like to talk to a cross-section of netlabel owners to answer these questions in email to me:
* who are you, what's your label's address?
* when you started the label
* how many releases you've had
* why you started your netlabel
* how you release - mp3, ogg, flac? soundcloud, archive.org, bittorrent, etc.
* how you present the albums for download - individual tracks, whole album zip file, both
* how you choose your artists and releases
* anything else you'd like to add
Email me at j k n A T j o h e i D O T c o m
I'll do a blog post with overall summaries of each question - and also will feature some labels as "interviews" down the road with additional questions/answers.
I've done a couple of artist interviews previously if you'd like to read them:
*
Hanne Adam / adamned.age - musician, photographer, digital artist
*
Kati Astraeir - painter, digital artist
Thanks for reading!
