I want to call special attention to this blog post. It's the story of Kevin Pletcher finding what he quickly began calling his "muse" for photography, a 4' by 4' bronze sculpture at an abandoned plant that is utterly amazing to view. How it translated to Bob Ohrum's Subliminal Listening album cover and wallpaper art - and how the "muse" was later desecrated for scrap.
While getting Bob's album ready for release - we realized - wow - we have a good story with these photos. Who created the sculpture? When was it built? I started on a quest to find this information and eventually found it. It was erected in 1969 at the Hooker Chemicals Corporation and created by John Vasser House. Once I'd found his name, I was able to track down a few more sculptures scattered around the country until finding the Smithsonian Art Inventories Catalog.
We discovered this sculpture was not catalogued - so Kevin took all of our information and his photos and contacted the Smithsonian who were very happy to add it to the catalog!
I am very proud of Bob's album - the music is substantial, it feels, it digs into the depths. Adding this enigma of a photograph to the cover - adds to the overall journey of the album - and then to find the rich history of the sculpture depicted. This is truly an exciting project - and I am so very, very proud to release it on Relaxed Machinery.
