Seeking Mastering Help for Steve Roach Tribute

I'm working on the Free Floating "Structures From Silence" compilation and thought I'd really like to have it mastered properly.

Since FF is a free label I don't have the means to pay anybody (which makes me really sheepish about asking, but I figure you never get anything if you don't ask). Steve Roach will be involved in the project, providing liner notes and his reactions to the tracks. This is why I would like it to sound its best.

If anybody is interested (or knows…

Absynth...?

Any of my musician friends have (or know where I can get) a used or discount legal copy of Native Instruments' Absynth?

Thanks.

Quiet Friends: A Tribute to Structures From Silence

30 years ago, in 1984, Steve Roach released Structures From Silence, a collection of music that completely altered my perceptions of what music could be. It was the blueprint of a musical world that I am still living in (and constructing) today.

To…

EP or Not EP

This isn't actually a question, it's more my opinion on a certain matter.

I don't see why anybody should name a release "Album Name EP" or "Album Name (EP)".

I think it's kind of apologizing for the length of a release. If a release makes sense as a collection of tracks that add up to a certain length, then that's it. If it's 20 minutes it's 20 minutes.

I think it's especially true since digital distribution has more or less done away with standard album length (which…

Lucette Bourdin - Brushstrokes Echo Now Available

I put together a compilation of Lucette's CC music as part of our celebration of her 60th birthday. Brushstrokes Echo is now available for free download.

From the liner notes:

I never met Lucette. I never spoke with her. Yet I feel that I truly know her mind and her…

February 2014: Celebrating Lucette Bourdin

February 25th of this year would be the 60th birthday of the incredibly talented painter and musician Lucette Bourdin, who unfortunately passed away in 2011.

In honor of this occasion, Free Floating is spearheading a month-long tribute and celebration of Lucette, her music, and her painting.

First, Free…

Celebrating the Summer Solstice with the Re-release of Altus's The Sidereal Cycle

It's been one year since Free Floating released The Sidereal Cycle 1 and I felt it would be fitting to put all 4 pieces together in one special package.

The release contains all four pieces in the series as well as some new cover art and expanded liner notes. (For those who have already downloaded the…

Just released some of my own original music...

Well, folks. I've had this music sitting on my hard drive for the longest time and decided, as a sort of New Year resolution of sorts, to just let out into the wild.

I feel somewhat sheepish releasing my own work via my own label, so this is simply self-released.

I've played various tracks on my show, so there won't be anything egg-cracking new. But I hope that you might enjoy some of…

An Uncommon Gesture - Help Bobby Jones (AKA I've Lost)

Posted this over on the Free Floating blog, but wanted to be sure it got the proper attention here as well.

a.m. Compilation - Call for Submissions

The other morning I was hit by a bolt of inspiration, “It’s time for another Free Floating compilation.” There have been the two Christmas compilations, and the label’s inaugural release, Conception, is nearly a year ago. So it’s time for something new.

So I am here issuing an official call for submissions for the next Free Floating compilation: a.m.

Free Floating Music - a.m.

The theme for this…
