I had such great luck posting my mixing vocals question, I'm going to try the other one that makes me craziest:  Latency.

I have, I think, a fairly high-end system:  Windows 7 x64, 16GB RAM, fast drives; I was using an NRV-10 firewire, but recently switched to a Mackie Onyx 820i firewire (both via ASIO).  I am almost exclusively using Ableton Live 9 Suite as my DAW.

Despite all this, I get latency!  I have always been frustrated by latency, and all the advice I find and…

Mastering II: Vox Horrendum

Inspired by Cloudwalk's post about mastering, I don't know why I didn't think to ask this crowd sooner -- after years of trying I'm still desperate to figure out how to mix vocals correctly.  I know there isn't one ring (modulator) to rule them all, but are there any hard-and-fast rules that would at least help me figure out how to chain what where and how?  There are a ton of guides out…

Tomorrow's Man commented on John K-N's blog post Question: Does reading inspire your music?
"Wow, this post has made me think about it and I've even surprised myself -- I don't go a year without something I publish directly incorporating a writing influence (I guess because I'm a writer first).   If anyone wants to…"

Tomorrow's Man commented on John K-N's blog post Question: Does reading inspire your music?
"I am constantly inspired by what I read; one of the first pieces of ambient music I ever composed from scratch was a bit called "Soundhouses" that was inspired by David Toop and a poem I 'found' (known as a "found poem"…"

Steve Roberts commented on Tomorrow's Man's blog post Latency
"I don't know the software in question but you can often let the system set a latency value automatically or set it yourself."

I like your Savannah photos. Savannah is a great city, it is hard to explain to others. My wife and I go there every year. Usually in the spring or fall (I get plenty of heat here in San Antonio, TX., so I avoid the summer.) My brother and his family live there on Tallelah Island which is the last island before Tybee. If you look at my photos, you'll see his dock which appears to go on forever across the marsh. Anyway, interesting reading list.
